1 Title: ISSUES IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT TH CONTRIBUTIONS OF EDUCATION AT DIFFERENT LEVELS FOR SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA.pdf
Author: JACK, IHECHI FLORENCE, PhD. AND OGWU, SAMPSON MAURICE
Abstract: Introduction This paper focused on the gains of education to national growth. It stresses the fact that a nation’s growth is proportionate to its success in education. Hence, the motive why contemporary international interest has focused on education as a tool for propelling nations into the world of science and technology with significant confidence on human improvement in terms of living conditions and development of the society. This is rightly so, because, education is the life wire of industrialization and also the basis of moral reawakening and renaissance of a nation. It is has the power for fortification of any nation’s defense system. It has also been observed that no nation rises above the level of its educational system. Seeing education in this viewpoint calls for adequate funding from federal, state and local governments in order to ensure that the sector produces the needed outcomes which will stimulate national development. The acquisition of education help to improve the capabilities of individuals and the capacity of institutions, and has become a catalyst for the closely interrelated economic, socio-cultural, and demographic changes that is defined as national development. The social and economic development of a nation is fundamentally an education processes in which people learn to create new institutions, utilize new technologies, cope with their environment, and alter their behavioural patterns (Adams, 2002). Education has been identified as a crucial sector and a major investment in human capital development in any nation: as it plays a critical role in long-term productivity and growth at both micro and macro levels (Orji & Job, 2013). Adams (2002), noted that there are substantial evidences proving the fact that schooling and other forms of education can, in a supportive environment, make meaningful contributions to the complex processes of technology transfer, economic productivity, individual earnings, reduction of poverty, development of healthy families, creation and sharing of values, learning the responsibilities of citizenship, and enhancement of the quality of life. 2 Title: THE RELEVANCE OF JUSTICE IN PROMOTING A WELL ORDERED SOCIETY A PHILOSOPHICAL ANALYSIS.pdf
Author: OGUGUA, JEREMIAH CHUKWU AND AGBOUFA, MAXWELL KEME
Abstract: Abstract The study examines the relevance of justice as a veritable tool for enthroning a well-ordered society. The objective is to highlight the role of justice as a panacea for the plethora of ills stagnating the progress and development of society. Adopting the critical method, the study discovers that the absence of a general and shared understanding of justice is responsible for the show of impunity evident among elected political office holders, lack of respect for the rule of law, corruption, bad governance, insecurity, promotion of mediocrity over meritocracy, unfairness in recruitment, appointments and siting of development projects as well as the failure of democratic and governmental institutions to effectively deliver the dividends of democracy that would have impacted positively on the socio-economic well-being of the citizens. Like Plato, who sees justice as a potent framework for restoring stability and harmony in the polity and Rawls who conceives justice couched on fairness as expedient for constructing a well-ordered society, the paper subscribes to the views of both philosophers by advocating for the adoption of justice couched on the principles of fairness, equity and impartiality as a sine-qua-non for achieving a well-ordered society capable of delivering good governance and democratic dividends to the generality of the citizens. The paper also argues that it is only with the guidance of a shared conception of justice that Nigerians and Nigeria can realize their full potentials. Author: ASIMIEA, MONIMA OPIRIBA AND IKUNGA, S.A., PhD.
Abstract: Abstract National Interest is among the first sets of interest that relates to the very idea and concept of a nation. It comes with the feeling of nationhood; the idea of belonging to a particular community and all its emotive connotations, however, these interests must be pursued in a continuous manner. It follows that policies must be directed towards the pursuit of predetermined goals in the international stage. However, foreign policies are not made in a vacuum. This is why a well-positioned Ministry of Foreign Affairs is imperative in formulating and implementing foreign policies in a continuous manner that will lead to the actualization of National Interest. Our present paper is based on the framework that Ministries of Foreign Affairs are potent forces in the attainment of National Interest therefore any postulation in the area of the pursuit of National Interest without digitalization and well positioned Ministry of Foreign Affairs will amount to exercise in futility because of the interconnectedness of both concepts. Author: NSIJILEM BENJAMIN NNAMDI AND ANTE, JAMES ETEKA (PhD)
13 Title: HOW FAR DO NON-OIL REVENUES PROMOTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA A POVERTY INDEX PERSPECTIVE.pdf
Author: ENIEKEZIMENE, D.E., NWINEE B.F. AND NNAMDI I.S.
Abstract: Abstract Given the importance attached to poverty index as a contentious issue in development economics and finance, this study evaluates the interrelationships prevailing between Nigeria’s non-oil revenues and her poverty index. Economic development was captured with Poverty Index. Secondary data was obtained from the Central Bank of Nigerias Statistical Bulletin, Federal Inland Revenue Service Board, Knoemia.com (2019), and the World Bank over the period 1981 to 2019 (40 years). Stationarity, Johansens cointegration, error correction, and Granger causality tests were employed in processing the obtained data. The results obtained show that, among the non-oil revenue elements, only personal income tax and royalties constitute the key factors that valuably prevail in the prediction of poverty index in Nigeria. In light of this, the study recommends that; (i) Personal income tax revenue collections should be increased through proper linkage of Nigerias taxable adults vital information like national identity card, bank verification number and the individual potential payers bank accounts. These will facilitate tax assessments in order to minimize tax evasion and avoidance. ii) More infrastructure and security should be provided by the state and solid mineral exploration firms in Nigeria’s rural areas in order to enhance the percentages of non-oil related revenues accruing from royalty payments and consequently, reduce poverty index as an economic development indicator in Nigeria. Author: WOSU, CHIDI (Ph.D)
Abstract: The main motivation for this study is to empirically examine if the service sector can reduce unemployment rate in Nigeria. This study looks at service sector performance and unemployment rate from 1980 - 2020. Annual data on unemployment rate, education services, tourism services, transport services and utilities were used. The study Dynamic Ordinary Least Square (DOLS), the Augmented Dickey –Fuller (ADF) and Phillip- Perron (P-P), Johansen Co-integration test and the Error Correction Mechanism (ECM) tests. Based on the DOLS result, the study revealed that three variables were variables conformed to economic theory and apriori expectations. Three of the variables used key determinants of service sector performance in Nigeria, being found to be statistically significant. The R2 result shows that about 77 per cent variations in service sector are explained by the independent variables used in the model. The Unit root test indicates that the variables are stationary at their first differences i.e. 1(0) and 1(1) for both the ADF and the PP tests. The Johansen Co-integration test revels that a long run relationship exists among the variables. The pairwise Granger causality test indicate that there is no causation in any direction amongst the variables. The ECM (t-1) result is rightly signed and indicated that the speed of adjustments from the short run disequilibrium to its long run equilibrium is about -0.307847 or 30 per cent and very significant statistically. The study concludes that there is need for a stable macroeconomic environment to increases service sector performance in Nigeria and the study recommends adequate investment in the service sector to reduce the spate of unemployment rate in Nigeria. 20 Title: LEARNING AND PROBLEM SOLVING-THE USE OF PROBLEM SOLVING METHOD TO ACHIEVE LEARNING IN PUPILS.pdf
Author: IYAGBA, P. W.
Abstract: Problem-based learning is a recognized teaching method in which complex real-world problems are used as the vehicle to promote student learning of concepts and principles as opposed to direct presentation of facts and concepts. Problem solving is a type of learning and is the pinnacle of Gagne’s hierarchy of learning process and it depends on stimulus response learning, chain learning, verbal association learning, discrimination learning, learning of concepts and learning of principles. Problem solving necessitates the study of evidence and concepts in order to establish cause effect relationships of environmental phenomena. Educational psychologists are of the view that learning is much deeper than memorization and information recall. Deep and long lasting learning involves, understanding, relating ideas and making connections between prior and new knowledge, independent and critical thinking and ability to transfer knowledge to new and varied contexts. This study therefore will investigate the strategies for problem solving as it applies to the teaching-learning process. Keywords: Learning, Problem Soving, Pupils. View
