Author: Osundina, Olawumi A., Musa, Dasauki C., Olanrewaju, Gideon O. & Ebere, Chidinma E.
Abstract: Abstract Nigeria is a country blessed and characterized by rich natural endowments. It is a country endowed with rich resources ranging from human resources to natural resources. However, about 32% of the total population still live below poverty threshold of 1.90$ per day according the World poverty Clock (2022). Despite the efforts of the government especially in the agricultural sector, the performance of the sector is still rated poor in recent years Hence, this study investigates the effect of government expenditure on economic growth in Nigeria by exploring the impact of commercial bank loans to agricultural sector, government recurrent expenditure on agriculture, interest rate, non-oil net exports on agricultural contribution on GDP in Nigeria giving consideration to the period between year 1985 – 2019. Visual plots reveal the trend of the series investigated and confirms the non-stationarity status of the series at levels. Employing the ADF, PP, ERS and KPSS unit root tests, the series are all revealed stationary, but at different levels. This gave reason for exploring Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL). Empirical revelations reveal that making funds available has positive and significant relationship in the shortrun, but not in the longrun. The study concludes that it is not enough to make funds available. Therefore, the study recommends that funds should rather be made accessible to agricultural sector at lower interest rates and through appropriate channels. View

6 Title: BUDGETARY POLICY REFORMS AND FISCAL PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA.pdf
Author: Ewedairo Hafeez Taiwo & Christopher C. Ebere
Abstract: Abstract With the return of democracy in Nigeria, the government commenced implementation of ambitious reforms to curtail waste of government resources and to raise standard of its fiscal management and financial discipline. The budget department and implementation procedures were targeted to enhance planned fiscal performance of the government using Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF). Current and the next government rolled out more reforms in 2007 and piloted the process for the FY 2011-2015. However, the current administration has numerous budgetary setbacks as deficits are almost uncontrollable. This paper empirically discusses budgetary policy reforms and fiscal performance in Nigeria. Analytical data are from the Central Bank of Nigeria Bulletin and the Budget Office. Unlike numerous measures of fiscal performance, we conceptualize government fiscal performance from the perspective of deficits operationalized by public debts, while budgetary reforms assume dummy variables. the Akaike Info Criterion selected the lag length of the deficit series. Augmented Dickey-Fuller estimated the unit root prior to the application of Dynamic Ordinary Least Square (DOLS) method. Our evidence suggests that budgetary reforms declined fiscal deficits. The paper thus concludes that reforms are ideal for greater fiscal performance and resource management of the Federal government. Keywords: Budgetary Reforms, Fiscal Performance, Dynamic OLS View

This suggests that the adoption of accounting standards by Nigerian banks improves their performance as measured using profit after tax. 8 Title: VALUE ADDED TAX AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA.pdf
Author: Akpomie, M. E., Ifionu, E.P. And Ogunbiyi, S. S.
Abstract: Abstract Motivated by the dwindling revenue to the Nigeria federal government, the study evaluated the implication of value added tax on economic development in Nigeria over the period of 1994 to 2020. The study employed the stationarity test and the ordinary least square. All variables attained stationarity at level as a result of the loglinear standardization employed. The study observed from analysis that while Value Added tax revenue displayed a positive and significant influence on Inflation, which means that higher value added tax tends to fuel inflation, a negative and significant influence can be seen in the light of value added tax and human development index, which shows that VAT retards the level of economic development in the nation. Based on these observations, the study recommended that; public authority should review the value added tax rate to a significant extent from its stale 5%. Public Authority should ensure to embrace strategies that will help to maintain adequacy of accounting procedure in the tax system in order to spur VAT efficiency. Government should increase the number of Value Added Tax agencies in the country to boost Value Added Tax productivity. View
