The study applied structured questionnaires to a sample size of 362 respondents drawn using Taro Yameni. The data generated was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies, means and standard deviations were used; inferential statistics such as Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was also used. The findings of the study showed that there was a significant of outdoo media on brand awareness, but there was no significant impact of broadcast media, print media, digital media on brand awareness of the selected transport companies in Benin City. Based on the findings of this study, and in line with its specific objectives, the transport companies should put efforts at developing their outdoor media to significantly generate brand awareness. On the contrary, the transport companies have not put the necessary effort and resources at developing their broadcast media, print media, and digital media to significantly generate brand awareness, and it is recommended therefore that there is need for the transport companies to be consistent in maintaining and developing their outdoor media. They also need to improve in developing their broadcast, print, and digital media to make them have significant impact on brand awareness.... more

3 Title: TRANSGENERATIONAL SUCCESSION AND SUSTAINABLE PERFORMANCE OF FAMILY BUSINESSES IN EDO NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT, EDO STATE, NIGERIA
Author: Ohikhena, Patrick S, Inana, Oghenero O & Omoluabi, Ehis T
Abstract: Family business is prevalent in Nigeria and in other parts of the world. There are various family owned businesses in Edo North Senatorial District, Edo State, Nigeria, where the voting majority is in the hands of the controlling family; including the founders who desire to transfer the business to their offspring, particularly the first son. This research work was therefore out to assess trans-generational succession of the first son and sustainable performance of family businesses in Edo North Senatorial District, Edo State, Nigeria. The study is strictly empirical and based on primary data. A total of 384 copies of the questionnaire were sent out to family members and employees of family businesses in the six Local Government Areas of Edo North Senatorial District of Edo State. It was found that trans-generational succession through the first son from exogamous marriage has a significant relationship with profitability of family business in Senatorial District; and that trans-generational succession through the first son from endogamous marriage does not have significant relationship with liquidity of family business in the Senatorial District. The study recommends that exogamous marriages (marriages outside one’s group) should be encouraged in a bid to expand the family network and bring in the required entrepreneurial orientation from outside the family to improve profitability of the family business; succession need not be through the first son where it has been observed that where a first son is reckless in spending and is high in conspicuous consumption(high consumption of luxury items), he may not be able to maintain the liquidity of family business let alone make profits; and children of the family who are to succeed the patriarch or matriarch should be groomed from the formative stages to imbibe the right orientation to inherit the family business to be able to manage them profitably. Key words: Succession, endogamous marriage, exogamous marriage, trans-generational succession, first son, organizational effectiveness, organizational efficiency ... more
4 Title: STRUCTURING ORGANISATIONS FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE: A THEORETICAL ANALYSIS
Author: Al- Hassan Bright Garuba (Ph.D)
Abstract: The need for structuring organisations has been demonstrated by both public and private organisations. Particularly, with the coming of and advance in modern technology for improving work performance, it has become necessary that modern organisations must embrace the new trend if they are to realise their basic objectives. Therefore, organisations need to have the right type of structure to be able to optimize their resources. A theoretical approach was adopted to explore how organisations are structured for effective performance. The objectives were to examine the extant literature to have a deeper understanding of the phenomenon. In this instance, the relevant concepts of organisation and organisational structure were discussed followed by a review of related literature. It is noted that there is no best way to structuring the organisation just as there are no rigid guidelines for structuring organisations; and hence, a recommendation that a blend of mechanistic and organic structure should be adopted by organisations with a view to enabling them capture specialisation and flexibility to successfully realise their basic objectives. Author: Olufemi, Gina Oghogho & Agbo, Innocent Sunny
Abstract: This study examined the impact of corporate Governance codes on the intellectual capital disclosure index of listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. The specific objective of this study was to examine the impact of remuneration packages and shareholders relations on the intellectual capital disclosure index of listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. Data were gotten from the annual reports of the selected DMBs over the periods studied. The study covered a period of ten (10) years spanning 2012 to 2021. The study adopted the panel data methodology. The Hausman test was used to estimate the most appropriate panel data variant for the study. The study reported that, remuneration packages have positive yet significant effect on intellectual capital disclosure index of listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. However, shareholder ratio (relations) has a negative but significant effect on the intellectual capital disclosure index of listed depository banks in Nigeria. The study recommended to the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) to ensure that corporate governance guidelines which address shareholders relationship related issues such as reiterating the importance of general meetings, communication with and equitable treatment of shareholders should be revisited. 6 Title: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT SYSTEMS OF NIGERIA AND CANADA
Author: Prof. Steve A. Iyayi & Ambrose O. Eghaghe
Abstract: The paper examined a comparative analysis of local government system in Canada and Nigeria with a view to advising on the evolution and providing an effective and functional local government system in both countries. The designation of local government as the closest government to the people in practical terms means that it has the responsibility of making the presence of government real in the locality through providing socio economic and political development of the rural areas. Albeit, this has not been the case given the evidence available which clearly reveal otherwise. Relying on secondary data from journals, newspapers and online materials the paper utilizes the Democratic-Participatory Theory for comparative analysis of the legal basis, structure/election; sources of revenue, responsibility and intergovernmental relations of the local governments of the two countries. The paper discovered among other things that local governments in both Nigeria and Canada do not have financial autonomy. Based on the findings, the paper recommends that the local governments should be given financial autonomy, focus more on extracting revenue internally and that the state government hegemony over local government especially in Nigeria whereby they could dissolve elected councils should be constitutionally reversed. 7 Title: FIRM ATTRIBUTES AND TAX AGGRESSIVENESS OF NON-FINANCIAL QUOTED COMPANIES IN NIGERIA
Author: Enyinna Okpara (PhD, FCA), Chris Iyafekhe (PhD, ACA) & Emma Iyobosa Aikowieren
Abstract: This study examined firm attributes and tax aggressiveness of non-financial quoted companies in Nigeria. The variables of firm attributes (Firm Profitability (FPROF), Firm Size (FSIZE) as well as Firm Liquidity (FLIQ)) were analysed to determine their relationship with Tax Aggressiveness (TAG). Tax aggressiveness is interchangeably used as tax avoidance, tax minimization, tax shelters and tax planning in terms that they meet the ethical and legal provisions recognized by the government. For the objective of the study to be achieved, eighty five (85) companies that are quoted on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX GROUP) PLC from the non-financial sector were selected and analyzed for the period (2016-2020). The Panel Least Squares (PLS) regression was used with the help of econometric packages (E-view-9.0) for data analysis. The result shows that Firm Profitability (FPROF) was found to be positive and significant with Tax Aggressiveness (TA) while Firm Size (FSIZE) and Firm Liquidity (FLIQ) were found to be insignificant and negatively interrelated with Tax Aggressiveness (TAG). The study therefore recommends that Firm Profitability (FPROF) should be given considerable attention when considering firm attributes as it relates to tax aggressiveness of companies in Nigeria. Author: Eke Robert Ike PhD, FCA & Uwagboe Ezinne
Abstract: This study examined the impact of Multiple Taxation and the Behavior of Taxpayers in Edo State, Nigeria. The study adopted the survey design using simple random sampling technique. The study adopted a sample of 400 respondents and data were sourced using questionnaires as instrument. The study enumerated four specific objectives which examined the effect of multiple taxes on tax avoidance behavior of taxpayers in Edo State; ascertain the effect of multiple taxes on tax evasion behavior of taxpayers in Edo State and determine whether multiple taxes influence taxpayers’ compliance in Edo State. The study adopted percentage and Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation to analyze the data sourced from the survey. The result revealed that multiple taxes have a strong positive correlation with tax avoidance behavior of the taxpayers in Edo State. The result also shows that multiple taxes have a strong positive correlation with tax evasion behavior of taxpayers in Edo State. Consequently, the result indicated that multiple taxes have a strong negative correlation with taxpayers’ compliance behavior in Edo State. The study recommends among others that the harmonization of different taxes levied on taxpayers should be according to the approved list of taxes collectible by each tier of government to minimize multiple tax practices in Edo State. The use of approved taxes will go a long way in curbing the incidence of tax evasion and tax avoidance and enhance voluntary tax compliance. 9 Title: MACROECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF NIGERIAS OIL RESOURCE AVAILABILITY AND EXHAUSTIBILITY
Author: Malachy Ashywel Ugbaka, Eyam, Nkang Enighe, Willie Wilfred Okoi & Inyang Ikpi Ikpi
Abstract: In the context of oil resource availability and exhaustibility, this article examines the impact of oil incomes on macroeconomic variables such as money demand, consumption, and investment. The study develops an econometric model for Nigeria in order to evaluate the hypothesis that the abundance of oil resources has a wealth or confidence effect on perceived incomes, altering the cash balance, consumption, and investment behavior of economic agents. The confidence impact was discovered to be present and large, and it was conveyed through cash balance demand, consumption, and investment. The findings demonstrate that the availability of resources engenders a sense of security, which has a negative impact on private sector savings and investment. The effect, on the other hand, mitigates the inflationary effects of monetary policy expansion. Government productive investment, consumption smoothing behavior, generating sufficient and effective incentives for the private sector, and investing in physical capital assets are all suggested as ways to drive growth, according to the findings. 10 Title: STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS PERSPECTIVES IN MANAGING NIGERIA’S CRIME EXPLOSION
Author: Nicholas Omoko
Abstract: In today’s Nigerian society, crime represents a critical stakeholder. The unprecedented rise in crimes, such as, armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, terrorism, banditry and cattle rustling has constrained the Nigerian government to introduce several crime fighting approaches. Despite government efforts, especially through State security forces, crimes have assumed a worsening dimension with increasing cases of attacks and abduction of villagers, worshippers, travellers and other settlers around Nigeria. Schools around the country are not spared, as both students and staff of different levels of educational institutions are kidnapped for ransom and sometimes killed by bandits and terrorists. Many Nigerian farmers have also been forced to abandon their farms due to incessant attacks. Not only are lives and property threatened, the Nigerian economy is also distressed by the impacts of insecurity on agriculture and the attendant hike in the prices of essential food commodities. Following the seeming inability of regular government crime fighting approaches to substantially deal with Nigeria’s rising insecurity, this paper examined the application of stakeholder relations perspectives to approach the country’s worsening insecurity. The qualitative paper combined Stakeholder and Relational Dialectics as theoretical cornerstone. It examined the impacts of some crime-yielding challenges, such as, illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, economic inequality and pseudo-social participation on the meteoric rise in crime in Nigeria. The paper recommended the application of dialogue in managing the rising militia activities and crimes. It was also recommended that beyond equipping State security formations, Nigerian government should direct attention to the conditions that breed crimes in the country. Keywords: Crime Explosion, Crime-yielding Conditions, Insecurity, Nigeria’s Security Forces, Stakeholder Relations Perspectives. ... more
11 Title: FEDERALISM AND THE NATIONAL QUESTION IN NIGERIA: IS A DANIEL COMING TO JUDGMENT SOON?
Author: Felix O.U. Oriakhi, Phd & Frank Prince Diepreye
Abstract: It has been observed by scholars, social commentators, and politicians that Nigeria’s model of federalism, ever since the military intervened in the body-polity in January 1966 is flawed. Consequently, it has exacerbated the inability of the nationalities to resolve what has been described as the “national question”. The study employs a multi-dimensional approach in its analysis which draw from current literatures, theoretical postulations and arguments of scholars, politicians, social movements and civil society organizations (CSOs) and other experts to foreground with some degree of precision the numerous factors responsible for the erosion of federalism in Nigeria. How the flawed federalism has heightened tensions among ethnic nationalities and their leading elite “front” organizations, with some of them drumming for the balkanization of Nigeria are discussed. Nonetheless, the study does not foreclose the possibility of Nigeria’s renaissance. The country can be rescued from the brink of a constitutional crisis and balkanization. The new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to tinker with the present warped structure and practice of federalism in Nigeria with a view to repositioning the country for developmental federalism that respects the diversities and identities in the country. But, can President Tinubu dare the reactionaries and anti-federalist forces in the country today? Can he be the Daniel of our time? Keywords: Nigeria, federalism, national question, fiscal federalism, ethnic nationalities, separatist forces and inter-group relations.... more
