Abstract: Child protection is a global concern, especially in the developing countries. This paper explores the roles of social workers in child protection, and the need for a policy option for sustainable development in Nigeria. This is in response to the growing need for all and sundry to eliminate child abuse and neglect. Globally the transition from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has made appreciable growth to enhance human welfare, including children. Although significant progress has been made, progress varies across regions, countries and even within countries, and extreme hunger and poverty nevertheless devastates the world population especially the developing countries. However, among all these the target of MDGs and SDGs, eradicating hunger and poverty remains unabated. However, with current state of hunger and poverty in Nigeria, addressing child abuse and neglect remains one of the obstructions to achieving sustainable development goals in the country, especially if the economic growth that translates into overall wellbeing of the people is not achievable. In this discourse, the role of social workers in child protection is crucial as obtainable in the developed societies. As a remediation, the paper recommends not only the implementation of child rights act but include social work intervention in the change process, and improving the capacity of families through wealth creation to be able to provide and protect the needs of the Nigerian children and enthrone world fit for children to thrive. Author: SOLOMON WACHARA OMER, PhD.
Abstract: The study investigated the cultural practices in Kenya that hinder women from ascending to top management positions in Kenya’s Education System. The concurrent triangulation research design, which is one of  the Mixed Methods Approach models, was used in the current study. The saturated sampling was used to establish sample size for the study. The target population in this study  consisted of a total of thirty six participants. These include six Sub County Directors of Education (SCDE), Six Quality Assurance and Standards Officers (QASO), six Assistant Deputy Directors (Teacher Management), and six District Examination Officers (DXO) who  responded  to the structured questionnaires. The interviews were carried out with a separate group of six senior Education officials from both Kisumu  County Director of Education and Kisumu County Director of Teacher Management. The content validity was assured by expert judgement by lecturers of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), while the reliability was ensured by split half method and a coefficient of r = 0.845 was reported. The quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics while the qualitative data was analysed using thematic framework. The study findings were that the social cultural factors were major obstacles to women’s access to top managerial positions. Other obstacles include the patriarchal nature of the society, the labor policies in the Ministry of Education that are not sensitive to women’s traditional multiple roles as wife, mother and a worker, the male domination of managerial positions and negative attitude on women as managers. The study recommends implementation of new Affirmative Action policies that could enhance women’s participation in decision making as top managers and policy makerson equal footing with their male counterparts  in education sector in Kenya. Author: BOTIR B. A., ALISHER B. A. AND SHAVKAT B. A.
Abstract: Abstract The article presents the results of the first backcrossing of F2 hybrids with genetic male sterility (GMS) for indicators of economically valuable traits. The influence of the genotypes of our varieties was very significant. The backcrossing results were analyzed according to the length of the growing season, the yield of fiber, the length of the fiber, the mass of raw cotton in one box, micronaire and the susceptibility to wilt involving backcrossing hybrid combinations or involving domestic cotton varieties C-6524, C-2609, Omad, An-512, An Bayavut-2, 108-F, Bukhara-6 and Indian variety specimens with a sign of genetic male sterility S-5001, S -5003, S-5007, S-5095, S-5097. The researchers set the goal of studying the effect of genotypes after the first backcrossing in F2. The best of the 35 combinations studied, the 34th combination with the participation of the Omad variety was the most precocious, in combination with fiber No. 2, 7, 24 and 28 they showed a rather high yield at the level of 34-35%., in combination with No. 7 along the fiber length, 14, 21, 23 had a fiber length of 34 mm and above. The most large-boxed plants were hybrid combinations under No. 7, 8, 15, 21, 22 and 29, in which this indicator was higher than 6 g.By micronaire in our studies, 4 and 33 combinations turned out to be such hybrids. Key words: genetic male sterility, pollen fertility, pollen sterility, variety, hybrid combination, backcross, box size, verticilliosis wilt, micronaire, fiber length, growing season, cotton. View
11 Title: TEACHERS’ COMPETENCE IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM.pdf
Author: AYANDELE, ABIODUN AYANLOLA AND ADEGBITE DORCAS OLAYEMI
Abstract: Abstract The study assessed the competence of Social Studies teachers in Ogbomoso North and South Local Government areas in Oyo State. The descriptive survey research design of ex-post facto type was adopted for the study. The research was carried out using ten Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) that were randomly selected from Ogbomoso North and South Local Government areas, Oyo State. Forty-seven teachers were selected through purposive sampling technique. Two research instruments were used for data collection namely: Social Studies Academic Qualification inventory (SSTAQI) and Social Studies Implementation Checklists (SSIOC). The data analysed using simple percentage revealed that40% of the teachers were competent to teach Social Studies in junior secondary schools as they possessed the required qualifications and exhibited satisfactory performance in classroom teaching. Thus, improving students’ performance in Social Studies would be a great factor in enhancing improvement on teachers’ competence in teaching. This in turn will improve Social Studies curriculum implementation. Key words: Competence, Implementation, Curriculum and Social studies View
12 Title: ‘TOKEN-REFERENT’ MATCHING AS A LOGICAL MODEL FOR EPISTEMOLOGY OF PROPOSITIONS-IMPLICATIONS.pdf
Author: Etorobong Godwin Akpan
Abstract: This study is concerned with an analysis of the logical structure of an epistemological demonstration of the foundations of knowledge. The purpose of the analysis was to ascertain whether epistemology is conducted within an appropriate logical framework. The project was necessitated by the need to identify the reason for the perennial skepticism in epistemology. The method adopted for the study was content analysis. With the application of the method, it was discovered that epistemology has so far been conducted within the token-referent matching logical model, which is validated by the view that epistemology could be substituted by referential realism. The implications gleaned from the analysis of the framework are: 1. the fallacy of an absolute objective standpoint; 2. the fallacy of ontological convenience; and 3. the emergence of skepticism within epistemology. It was submitted that all these implications would be obviated if epistemic justice is done to the inputs of both the subject and the object. Keywords: Token, Matching, Epistemology, Skepticism, Fallacy, Ontology. View
